About Us

At Aunty Gwen Cares, we are a community-focused NDIS support service committed to delivering culturally safe, respectful, and reliable care for Aboriginal people across Northern NSW.

Our purpose is to walk alongside participants, their families, and our community, providing support that strengthens independence, builds confidence, and respects culture every step of the way.

Our Story

Aunty Gwen Cares was proudly launched in 2026 with a clear purpose: to make it easier for Aboriginal people, families, and communities to find culturally safe services, trusted organisations, and meaningful support.

We are committed to delivering high-quality, culturally responsive NDIS supports. We understand that every participant's journey is unique, and we work alongside individuals, families, and carers to provide support that promotes independence, builds confidence, and empowers people to achieve their goals while remaining connected to culture and community.

Our mission is to strengthen connections between people and the services that help them thrive while celebrating the organisations making a positive difference in our communities every day.

Looking to the future, our ambition is to become the leading Aboriginal support service in the region; A trusted organisation that communities, service providers, and government partners rely on to deliver culturally safe support, strengthen community connections, and improve outcomes for Aboriginal people.

As we continue to grow, we remain committed to our core values of respect, community, cultural integrity, and care. Every connection we make, every participant we support, and every partnership we build is another step towards stronger communities, greater opportunities, and a future where support is always within reach.

Our Services

At Aunty Gwen Cares, we provide high-quality NDIS supports that empower participants to live with greater independence, confidence, and choice. Our services are designed to support people in their everyday lives while helping them build the skills, relationships, and resilience needed to achieve their long-term goals.

Whether you need assistance at home, support to engage with your community, or help developing everyday life skills, we're here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

Our supports are designed to:

  • Empower independence by building confidence, life skills, and self-belief.
  • Strengthen daily living through practical support that promotes routine, wellbeing, and personal growth.
  • Enhance social and community participation, creating opportunities to connect, learn, and thrive.
  • Support individual goals with flexible, person-centred services tailored to each participant's unique aspirations.
  • Promote cultural safety and belonging by delivering support that respects identity, culture, and community connections.

We recognise that every participant's journey is different. That's why we don't believe in one-size-fits-all support. Every service we deliver is tailored to the individual.

At Aunty Gwen Cares, our focus isn't just on providing services; it's on creating opportunities, building confidence, and helping people achieve the life they choose to live.

Aboriginal-led Services

Aboriginal leadership is at the core of our service. We recognise the importance of identity, family, and community, and we are committed to creating an environment where participants feel respected, understood, and valued.

We work in a way that honours cultural knowledge, strengthens community connection, and ensures participants feel comfortable in the supports they receive.

Aunty Gwen Cares

Our Approach

At Aunty Gwen Cares, we believe that great support begins with genuine relationships. Every person is unique, with their own goals, strengths, culture, and aspirations. That's why we take a person-centred, culturally grounded approachto everything we do, ensuring our participants feel heard, respected, and empowered every step of the way.

We understand that support is about more than completing daily tasks, it's about creating opportunities, building confidence, and helping people live meaningful and independent lives.

We are committed to:

  • Listening first – Taking the time to understand each participant's individual goals, preferences, interests, and support needs.
  • The right match – Carefully matching participants with support workers whose personality, experience, and values create genuine, lasting connections.
  • Reliable, high-quality support – Delivering consistent, dependable services that participants and families can trust.
  • Building relationships – Creating safe, respectful, and supportive environments where trust can grow over time.
  • Celebrating culture – Embedding Aboriginal values of respect, connection, community, and belonging into the way we support every participant.
  • Promoting independence – Encouraging participants to develop confidence, build life skills, and make choices that support the future they want.
  • Working together – Partnering with participants, families, carers, and communities to ensure support is holistic, collaborative, and meaningful.

At Aunty Gwen Cares, we don't just provide support, we build relationships that inspire confidence, strengthen communities, and empower people to live life on their own terms. Every interaction is guided by compassion, respect, and a genuine commitment to helping people thrive.

Aunty Gwen Williams

1949 - 2023

Aunty Gwen Williams was a deeply respected Bundjalung Elder from Casino in Northern NSW, known for her unwavering commitment to community, culture, and care for others. She led with quiet strength and wisdom, always placing people at the centre of everything she did.

The inspiration for Aunty Gwen Cares is grounded in the values she lived by every day. These are patience, deep listening, continuous learning, strong relationships, and an unbreakable connection to culture. These weren’t just principles she spoke about, but values she practiced through her work and presence in community.

Today, her family continue to carry and protect these values, ensuring they are honoured in a way that is authentic and meaningful. As custodians of her legacy, they guide the foundation of Aunty Gwen Cares and the way support is delivered.

At Aunty Gwen Cares, these values shape everything we do. Our programs are designed to ensure that every participant feels genuinely heard, understood, and supported. We are committed to providing high-quality, culturally safe care that respects identity, strengthens connection, and creates a safe and empowering environment for people to thrive.
